YouTube app won’t load or crashes on iOS 16 devices

Millions of people use YouTube every day to watch videos, making it the most widely used video streaming service in the world. However, every time there is a service outage or glitch, many of those millions are affected.

That said, we previously covered an issue where video timestamps stopped working for many users, negatively impacting their experience.

And now iOS 16 users (1,2,3,Four,Five,6,7,8) reported issues with the YouTube app not loading or crashing.

It takes a few tries to open the app, but when it does, it just says “A serious error has occurred”.

This issue prevents users from getting past the loading screen. In addition, there are also some reports showing that: youtube music app It started crashing even with the iOS 16 update.

Affected users have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and even rebooting their devices, to no avail.

Official acknowledgment and possible workarounds

Luckily YouTube is aware of the crashing issue on iOS 16 and said the team is currently working on a fix.

I also found a workaround that might help solve the problem. This includes resetting the Google Usage ID in the app’s “History & Privacy” settings.

It looks like those affected will have to wait until the team finds a solution.
