Rivian Software Update Bricks Infotainment System, solution not obvious

An anonymous reader quotes a report from Electrek: On Monday, Rivian released an incremental software update 2023.42, which bricked the infotainment system in R1Ses and R1Ts. The company is frantically working on a fix, but it may not be OTA. […] The vehicles are drivable, but the software and displays go black. It appears that the software update 2023.42 is stuck at 90% on the vehicle screen or 50% on the app screen and then the vehicle screens go black. All systems still seem to work, except the displays. At this time, it appears that Amazon vans are not affected. Update: The company has acknowledged the issue with affected customers but has not yet released a fix or resolution plan. Rivian’s vice president of software engineering, Wassim Bensaid, took to Reddit to alert users of the situation, writing: “Hello everyone, we made a mistake with the 2023.42 OTA update – a big finger where the wrong build with the wrong security certificates was sent. We have canceled the campaign and will restart it with the correct software that has gone through the various beta testing campaigns. The service will contact affected customers and go through resolution options. In some cases, this may require physical repair are needed. This is on us — we messed up. Thank you for your support and your patience as we work through this.

*Update 1 (11/13, 10:45 PM PT): The issue affects the infotainment system. In most cases, the other vehicle systems are still operational. A vehicle reset or sleep cycle will not solve the problem. We validate the best options to address the issue for the affected vehicles. Our customer service team is prioritizing support for our customers regarding this issue. Thank you.”
