PdaNet+ now includes both PdaNet (USB or Bluetooth mode) and FoxFi (WiFi mode, may not work on your phone – details below). On some phone models you can now share your mobile phone’s internet connection with your computers or tablets via USB, Bluetooth or even WiFi Hotspot. Most importantly, you don’t need an additional tether (mobile hotspot) subscription from your carrier. Also NO ROOTING NEEDED for your Android phone.
The free version of PdaNet+ has a timed usage limit, otherwise it is the same as the full version.
USB mode
USB mode works on almost all Android phones. It allows connection from a Windows PC or Mac. Moreover, PdaNet comes with a “WiFi Share” feature that can further turn the Windows PC into a WiFi hotspot, allowing you to connect other devices to it and share your phone’s Internet connection.
*T-Mobile or MetroPCS users can only use USB mode if “Hide Tether Usage” is enabled in PdaNet. However, this will destroy Netflix.
*If your phone is not recognized by your computer after connecting USB, please refer to _http://pdanet.co/driver
*Treat Windows tablets (not RT) the same as Windows PCs.
Bluetooth mode
Bluetooth mode allows connection from a Windows PC, Android tablets (excluding Android 4.4) or devices that support Bluetooth DUN.
*A system bug in Android 4.4 for tablets breaks Bluetooth mode. This is fixed in Android 5.0 or later.
*For Android tablets, only the browser app may work in Bluetooth mode. That’s because other apps may be looking for Wi-Fi or cell phone connections and not recognize Bluetooth internet.
*One way around the above two problems is to find a Wi-Fi hotspot that you can connect the tablet to at the same time (such a Wi-Fi hotspot does not have to provide Internet access).
WiFi mode
Due to lockouts with each phone system update, WiFi mode is only allowed on a short list of compatible devices. From 06/2016 GENERAL:
—Verizon Samsung phones (S3/4/5/6/7/Edge, Note 2/3/4/5 etc.), Verizon LG phones (V10, G2/3/4/5 etc.) and Verizon Sony phones (Z2/Z3) are supported by all Android versions, including Android 6.0/6.1.
—Verizon HTC phones (M7/8) only run on Android 4.1 ~ 4.4.
—Verizon Motorola phones only run on Android 4.3 or lower.
—AT&T Samsung phones only run on Android 4.2 or lower.
—Other carriers/phones will only work if they still have Android 4.0 or lower.
—Straight Talk phones will only work if they use Verizon and are compatible with the above.
—For all other phones, use USB mode or Bluetooth mode.
*To bypass lockdowns in WiFi mode, FoxFi may ask you to install a certificate on your phone. This causes the Android system to enforce a screen lock and display a security message in the notification. For more information and steps to remove the screen lock, visit _http://pdanet.co/wifi.
*If you receive a message asking for a “password to save credentials”, it is due to a bug in the Android system. See steps to clear this message at _http://pdanet.co/wifi
