All over the state —The Colorado Department of Transportation and Xcel Energy will continue safety-critical helicopter operations in Glenwood Canyon for one or two days next week. The work is expected on Tuesday 29 August and possibly Wednesday 30 August. Motorists can expect the same limited 10-minute traffic congestion as this week for eastbound and westbound I-70. The holds are needed during helicopter operations and went smoothly this week. Electricity pylons are being replaced. The working hours remain only from 9am to 4pm. Poses are not allowed during morning and evening shuttle times. The Glenwood Canyon recreation trail, rest areas and river access will not be affected by the helicopter operations.
There will be a short westbound carriageway closure on Tuesday and Wednesday due to other work to replace power poles. That work will take place near Mile Point 128 for Holy Cross Energy. No additional traffic effects are expected for the work near MP 128.
