Installation instructions
If you already have Magisk installed, it is highly recommended to upgrade directly through Magisk Manager
Below you will find instructions for the first installation:
- If you plan to flash a custom kernel, flash it AFTER installing Magisk
- Be sure to remove any other root. The best way to restore your boot image to stock is via custom recovery:
- Download the latest Magisk zip file
- Reboot with a custom recovery and flash the flashable zip
- Reboot the system and check that Magisk Manager is installed and that the version matches the latest version in the OP
- If for some reason Magisk Manager does not install/upgrade automatically, please install/upgrade it manually!
Via Magisk Manager (only supports v14.0+): - This method does not require root, nor does it require a custom recovery.
- However, you MUST have a stock boot image dump beforehand, and you must also be able to flash the patched boot image, via fastboot/download mode or ODIN
Install the latest Magisk Manager - If you plan to flash the patched boot image via ODIN, go to Settings > Update Settings > Patched Boot Output Format and select .img.tar. For normal users, leave this at the default .img
Press Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File and select your stock boot image file. Magisk Manager will now patch and save your boot image in [Internal Storage]/MagiskManager/patched_boot.img[.tar] - Copy the patched boot image to your PC. If you can’t find it via MTP, you can get the file using ADB:
adb pull /sdcard/MagiskManager/patched_boot.img[.tar] - Flash the patched boot image to your device and reboot. Here’s the command if you’re using fastboot:
fastboot flash boot /path/to/patched_boot.img
