iOS 17: How to add a different home screen wallpaper to your iPhone

One of the most exciting features introduced with last year’s iOS 16 release was a whole new level of lock screen customization. Apple goes beyond just letting you set up still images, so you can create screens that cycle through collections of photos of friends, pets, and landscapes, check real-time weather forecasts, astronomical conditions, and more. opened the floodgates.
This feature is largely the same in iOS 17, but Apple made a nice tweak in iOS 17.1 that allows you to select any album and use it instead of being limited to fixed smart collections like People, Pets, and Animals. Photo shuffle can now be displayed on the lock screen. Both nature and cities. You can also set multiple lock screens and cycle through them. This also means multiple photo shuffle screens for selecting photos from different albums. These can be set to appear automatically in different focus modes, so you can automatically switch between an album of professional photos at work and family photos at home.
A new standby mode in iOS 17 reduces the frequency of the lock screen appearing while your iPhone is charging, but it only takes effect when you turn your phone sideways. So you can enjoy the lock screen even if you leave it upright on the charger. This pairs especially well with the rich full-color always-on displays on Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
While you can only set your home screen to display a static photo behind your app icons, you can now choose to blur that background or dress it up a bit with some filters. What’s even more fun is that your home screen wallpaper is paired with each lock screen you set, so it changes depending on each lock screen. By default you’ll get a blurred version of the corresponding lock screen image, but you can also set it to any other image in your Photos library as before.
