When Apple released iOS17 On September 18th, the company provided iPhone users with a number of new and useful features, including: standby mode, offline map and check-in. Also, crossword puzzles in the News app are one of the fun new features added to the OS.
To access these puzzles, apple news plus Subscription, costs $13/month. An Apple News Plus subscription is also part of the Apple One Premier bundle. $38/month Also includes other services such as Apple TV Plus and apple arcade.
Here’s how to access the daily crossword puzzle as an Apple News Plus subscriber.
Play crossword puzzles on Apple News
1. Open the Apple News app.
2. Tap Continue It’s in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap puzzle.
Apple News Plus subscribers can play new crossword puzzles every day.
You can also access crossword puzzles by visiting . Apple News > Today > Latest Puzzles — This option was far down on today’s page.
On the puzzle page you can find the latest crossword of the week. At the top of the page you will also see the following options: crossword and crossword mini, a small crossword puzzle arranged in a 5×5 grid. When you tap on either of these options, the app will take you to the latest puzzle no matter which one you choose.
How to play puzzles
Once you decide which puzzle you want to play, you can solve it in two ways: grid view and list view. By default, you enter grid view, which is a traditional crossword puzzle layout. The entire grid will be visible and if you tap on the square a hint will appear below the puzzle. You can also switch between vertical and horizontal clues by tapping the square again or tapping the clue.
List view, on the other hand, avoids the traditional grid of crossword puzzles and displays all clues and the number of letters in each answer in a list format. To access the list view, tap the bulleted list icon in the top left corner of the screen during a puzzle. As you type letters into the list view, letters from other clues will begin to appear where the clues intersect on the grid. I still think list view sounds difficult, but I’m also not very good at crossword puzzles to begin with.
How many puzzles are there?
Every day there are two new puzzles: a crossword and a crossword mini. It looks like the puzzle will be accessible for about a month after it’s published. So you have access to a small archive of playable crosswords. This is also a new feature, so the number of puzzles available is subject to change.
