coming soon Apple’s annual fall event for iPhone.of Event “Wanderlust” will take place on Tuesday, September 12th, where Apple is expected to announce: iPhone15, apple watch series 9 and apple watch ultra 2. But as we get closer to the new iPhones, we’re also iOS 17 released.
iOS17 Announced during Apple’s annual World Developers Conference in June, 5th Public Beta. iOS 17 updates the FaceTime, Messages, and Phone apps to change the way you make calls, send text messages, and get information. There’s a new standby mode that turns your iPhone’s lock screen into a mini hub similar to the Amazon Echo Show. You can download the iOS 17 public beta, but we recommend that you don’t download it on your main iPhone.
Last year’s software update, iOS 16, introduced the ability to edit or “undo send” messages sent via iMessage. Apple Pay later; a major lock screen overhaul. Updated notifications. and live action. These additions didn’t roll out all at once, but were actually distributed over the course of minor iOS software updates throughout the year.

The same is expected with iOS 17, which is likely to be released just before the rumored iPhone 15 launches.
contact poster
Contact posters are meant to make contact cards more attractive.
Last year, iOS 16 introduced the ability to customize the lock screen. This year’s iOS 17 brings a similar change to your iPhone’s contact card, making it even more eye-catching. Contacts Poster is a beautiful treatment that combines contact photos and emojis with smooth fonts to display when you receive a call or any other service on your phone that communicates and shares.
Just like you customize your lock screen, you can customize your contact poster. Just choose a photo, font and color.
AirDrop becomes easier to use
With Name Drop, you can share your contact poster by simply bringing another iPhone closer.
AirDrop gets a major overhaul in iOS 17. Simply bring your girlfriend’s iPhone close to someone else’s girlfriend’s iPhone to share contact posters, photos, videos, or use Share Play to initiate shared activities. Of course, since it’s Apple, there’s a term for sharing a contact poster with new people: “NameDrop.” The great thing is that you can choose which contact information you want to share. NameDrop works between his iPhones or even Apple Watch. I remember “bumping” my contacts back in the early days of the iPhone.
Standby turns iPhone into Amazon Echo Show
When your iPhone is placed in the MagSafe charger and in a horizontal position, it will enter standby mode.
One of iOS 17’s biggest additions is for when you’re away from your iPhone. Turn your iPhone sideways while charging MagSafe for a new, at-a-glance full-screen experience. This feature is called Standby and mimics what many smart home devices such as the Amazon Echo Show do.
The new screen shows time, photos, widgets and live activity. Almost everything can be personalized. It’s a bit of a cross between always-on display mode on the iPhone 14 Pro and nightstand mode on the Apple Watch.

Swipe sideways on the standby screen to see your favorite photos and moments. iOS 17 automatically shuffles your images to find the ones that make the most of your screen.
Standby can also display an at-a-glance widget. For example, you can check the weather, Apple Home smart control, or your favorite 3rd party his widgets. With support for live activities, you can also check the scores of sporting events and the status of food deliveries.
One of the more interesting features is that the standby can remember your preferred view ‘settings’ for each location you charge via MagSafe.
New journal app
iOS 17 introduces a new Apple app called Journal that creates personalized suggestions to encourage writing. These suggestions are curated from information on his iPhone, including photos, location, music, and workouts.
Journal allows you to select a moment, such as ‘Morning Visit, Ocean Beach’, and start writing. You can also schedule notifications to remind you to create and retrieve new prompts. Flag important moments so you can look back on them later.
live voicemail
With Live Voicemail, you can preview the transcription in real time while recording your voicemail.
Another new feature iOS 17 has is voicemail. When someone calls you and leaves you a message, you’ll see a live transcription of what they’re saying in real time. The new service is called Live Voicemail, and it sounds a lot like the answering machine days when my dad screened phones. With live voicemail, you can see your voicemail on your screen so you can answer the call and decide if you want to answer the call. This feature takes advantage of the iPhone’s neural engine to protect your privacy. Live voicemail looks just like the call screen on Google Pixel phones, which isn’t a bad thing.
FaceTime messages
With iOS 17, FaceTime will let you record video messages. This is a highly-requested feature that ensures that important moments are recorded and shared even if someone misses the call.
message check in
iOS 17 comes with a new location sharing tool called Check-in.
Apple is expanding and simplifying location sharing via Messages. Called Check-in, this new feature lets your loved ones know you’ve arrived safely at your destination. Whether you’re walking home after dark or heading out for an early run, start check-in with family and friends and your friends will automatically be notified as soon as you arrive home. But if something unexpected happens, you can know that you are not near your destination and get in touch. If you don’t answer, Check In automatically shares your location, the route you’ve taken, your iPhone’s battery level, and your phone’s service status. Everything is end-to-end encrypted.
The message has some fixes and additions
In iOS 17, the Messages app gets voice message transcriptions.
The tried-and-true Messages app gets a few updates, including a visual overhaul of the iMessage app, which no longer appears above the keyboard and is instead accessed via the plus sign in the bottom left.
iOS 17 added filters to make searching for messages much easier. When you start a search in the Messages app, you can add terms to narrow your results.
Another welcome addition is voice message transcription. If you have a friend or family member who sends you a voice message, you can read the transcript of the recording directly in the Messages app.
Messages also have a new “catch-up arrow”. Appears in the upper right corner of a conversation and lets you jump to the first unread message. This could be a killer feature for managing group chats. Apple has also sped up inline replies. With iOS 17, you can reply by simply swiping over the message bubble.
Apple fixes “ducking” autocorrect
Autocorrection will become more intelligent and will be able to correct more grammatical mistakes. Makes it easier to revert words back to what you typed. And apparently, AutoCorrect learns to use swear words. Duck, yes!
Messages has a lot of sticker features added.
iMessage Stickers now has a new drawer to keep all the stickers you use in one place. And emoji became stickers. You can peel off emoji stickers and stick them on message bubbles, rotate and resize them. Last year in iOS 16, Apple introduced the ability to lift the subject from the background of a photo as part of Visual Lookup. With iOS 17, you can turn your photo subject into a sticker in Messages.
The sticker drawer also has a Live Stickers tab that lets you create sticker animations (aka GIFs) from Live Photos. Stickers can be accessed system-wide from Tapback, Markup, third-party apps, and more. Basically anywhere you can access emojis.

But wait, iOS 17 has even more features
As is often the case at WWDC, iOS 17 has far more additions and improvements than Apple showed in its keynote. Notable highlights include:
- Activate Siri by simply saying “Siri” instead of “Hey, Siri”
- Download offline maps with the Maps app
- Safari new profile and password
- Automatic acquisition of one-time verification codes from mail apps
- Interactive Widgets (covered in detail in the iPadOS part)
iOS 17 will be fully released this fall and will work on iPhone XS, XR and later, including the 2020 iPhone SE.
