iOS 17.1.1—Two new reasons to update to iOS 17, one to wait

Apple has released iOS 17.1.1, which includes several important bug fixes for the latest iPhone operating system. But even if his iPhone can run his Apple’s recently launched software, many are still waiting to upgrade to iOS 17.

It’s been a few months since iOS 17 was released, and iOS 17.1.1 fixes some of the early bugs. Meanwhile, the latest and first major point update, iOS 17.1, includes important security updates along with better new features.

So, is it time to take the plunge and upgrade your iPhone? There’s no doubt about it. iOS 17 has a lot of great new features, including live voicemail, message updates, NameDrop, and more.

With the release of iOS 17.1.1, there are two new reasons to update to iOS 17 and one reason to wait.

Reasons to update to iOS 17

iOS 17.1.1 fixes many bugs: One thing that many iPhone users complain about is bugs. iOS 17 is similarly buggy. But what I’ve noticed with iOS 17 is that Apple is more proactive than ever in fixing bugs, so you don’t have to worry about the problem for long.

Apple’s iOS 17.1.1 is no exception, with the upgrade containing only bug fixes and no published CVE entries to indicate that any security issues have been patched.

However, iOS 17.1.1 fixes an issue that may prevent the weather lock screen widget from displaying snow correctly. Meanwhile, Apple said it has also fixed a bug that caused Apple Pay and other NFC features to become unavailable on some iPhone 15 models after wireless charging in certain cars.

Although not mentioned in the official release notes, iOS 17.1.1 fixes Wi-Fi issues that have plagued users since iOS 17, as well as a bug that caused iPhones to turn off randomly at night. Some people think that it is.

iOS 17 is more secure than iOS 16: Apple is updating iOS 16 with security fixes for iPhone users who are reluctant to upgrade to iOS 17, at least for now. That’s all well and good, but iOS 17 comes with more security updates than iOS 16, making updating to Apple’s latest operating system more secure.

As security researcher Josh Long notes, if your iPhone can run iOS 17 and you value security, you should upgrade. He points out that Apple patched more than 70 vulnerabilities between iOS 17 and iOS 17.1. “On the other hand, iOS 16.7 has half the number of patches,” he says.

Reasons to wait to update to iOS 17

iOS 17.2 will be released soon, so we recommend you to wait. If you want to wait a little longer, iOS 17.2 is scheduled to be released with exciting new features like iMessage Contact Key Verification. This helps prevent attackers from listening to or reading your conversations. It also fixes some bugs, including Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

Other new features introduced in iOS 17.2 include the Journal app, new AirPlay settings for Apple Vision Pro headsets, collaborative Apple Music playlists, a new weather widget, and improvements to the Contacts app.

iOS 17.2 is expected to be released in late November or early December, so you won’t have to wait long.

iOS 17.1.1—Verdict

The current safe versions of iOS are iOS 17.1.1 and iOS 16.7.2, so you should update to one if your iPhone is compatible. Is now the time to update to iOS 17? If you’re interested in trying out new features two months after the initial release, why not give it a try?

Otherwise, wait for iOS 17.2. The next iPhone update should be rolling out soon.
