One can lock or unlock their vehicle, start or stop charging or even enable or disable wait and dog mode, the report said.
This ease of performing certain actions was made possible through integration with Apple’s Shortcuts app, which allows apps to complete tasks through a voice command to Siri.
According to the report, drivers can now also precondition their vehicle or open the trunk, tailgate or loading gate.
Why it matters: While third-party apps previously allowed users to use Siri to control their Tesla, it can now be done without them, further automating both the Tesla and Apple experience. But Tesla has yet to have CarPlay on its cars.
However, it is rumored that AirPlay is coming soon to Tesla cars and will offer an alternative to streaming high-quality content to the vehicle’s sound system.
If successfully implemented in Tesla vehicles, AirPlay would allow drivers and passengers to wirelessly stream music, podcasts and more from their iPhones directly to the car’s sound system without Bluetooth pairing.
