Apple’s Vision Pro augmented reality headset will have an App Store full of apps at launch.

When the company announced the Vision Pro in June, it said the headset will come with a brand new App Store featuring specialized apps built for the Vision Pro’s operating system, visionOS. The company also said that this App Store will contain “compatible” iPad and iPhone apps.

In an update published Tuesday on its developer website, Apple shared some more details about how this will work in practice.

Apple may launch an “iPhone Ultra” that works well with Vision Pro

According to Apple, Vision Pro’s App Store will launch with “hundreds of thousands of iPad and iPhone apps.” The company also said that “most” iPad and iPhone apps run on visionOS.

As for timing, Apple says a beta version of visionOS for developers will include the new App Store “starting this fall.” Developers who own the Vision Pro will have their iPhone and iPad apps automatically published to the Vision Pro App Store. And for most of them, this will require little to no extra work.

Most of the frameworks available in iPadOS and iOS are also included in visionOS, which means that almost all iPad and iPhone apps can run on visionOS unmodified.

Apple reiterated that Vision Pro is coming “early next year,” which is also when customers will be able to access these apps in the Vision Pro App Store.
