When Apple releases new software for iPhones, aka iOS 17, in September, some iPhones will be left out of the new update. For example, if you have a 2017 or newer iPhone X or another older model, you won’t be able to experience the new features that come with the update. New features from Apple include a new standby mode, a journal app, major updates to Messages, and more.

If you don’t know which iPhone you have, a quick look at the settings will tell you.Open the Settings app and tap general > about. Next to the model name you will see the iPhone you have.

According to Apple, if you own one of these iPhones, you’ll get access to iOS 17 when it releases this year.

What if your iPhone is not on the compatibility list?

If your iPhone isn’t listed above, it doesn’t support iOS 17 and you won’t receive a notification to download the latest software. For example, if you have an iPhone X or earlier, the latest software available for that phone is iOS 16.
