I have very little knowledge about FEM, so I need some kind of help:
I have created a model and added 2 material layers. At first I had a steel and a concrete layer, but for reasons which are not important for the model now, I changed the steel to a wooden box that is as thick as the concrete layer. I created this wooden box as the inner structure of a 3D model of a building.
When doing a simulation of the structure, the boxes behaves like an “impermeable barrier”, with a good result. The distribution of stresses is correct and the models equilibrium is excellent.
Now I have changed the material type of the boxes to not-linear-elastic. The “drapes” are thin, and the material between the boxes is also thin. There is no problem with that.
Now I have changed the simulating object to a steel plate, with a thickness of half of the wooden boxes. When I simulate this steel plate, something strange happens: The plate bends exactly in the middle of the wooden boxes. I tryed it with several types of steel, and all of them bend right in the middle.
I have checked that the boundary conditions have excellent results. But it seems that the middle is “sucked” inside the boxes. The stress distribution is not correct and the equilibrium is not excellent.
I think the problem might be that the boxes are like “reinforcing elements” and maybe the steel plate is not strong enough to suffer the load of the boxes in the middle.
The most important question now is: Is the steel plate strong enough to sustain the load of the boxes in the middle? And can I manage the middle with good results?
